2011 – GEMS (Girls Engineering Math Science)
Dr. Everson and participants of Girls Engineering Math Science (GEMS) at Moraine Park Technical College acted as Disease Detectives, using clues from signalment, history, clinical signs, examination findings and laboratory tests to discover what ailed three pets. In the first case a young pitbull-mix ingested toxic antifreeze. An elderly cat suffered from chronic kidney failure in the second case. In the third case, a middle-aged shih tzu needed treatment for bacterial pneumonia. The students used their math skills to calculate medication doses and IV fluid rates.
